A Hidden City and the Hum of Stories
In another version of Bath, one just beneath the rhythm of everyday life, a professor who lived for stories gathered people from across the lands. In this hidden place, time moved differently – unhurried, yet rich with the whispers of lives long past and those yet to begin. The air wasn’t filled with noise but instead vibrated with the quiet hum of tales waiting to be told, like a soft breeze stirring through leaves before dawn breaks.
This gathering became The Story Society. There were no grand declarations or banners, only quiet meetings where words flowed like streams carving through stone – gentle, yet with the power to reshape landscapes over centuries. They didn’t seek to impose but to invite: to soothe fractured communities by weaving their stories together, like the intertwined roots of ancient trees nourished by hidden waters beneath the surface. Each voice, like a raindrop, soaked into the soil, and together they made the ground fertile.
From this tender space of imagination, StoryArcs emerged. Fragile at first, like the faint impression of a dream before waking, it floated without form until it caught the ear of those attuned to its quiet possibilities. Artists gathered like moss growing in the cracks of city walls, filling spaces unnoticed by most but essential to holding the stones together.

The Journey Begins
In 2022, the first ripples from StoryArcs touched the world. It wasn’t a grand unveiling, but a softer moment – light shifting through the leaves of an old tree. The Story Society sent out invitations – not formal letters, but quiet calls that travelled across the UK, reaching projects nestled in unexpected places. From ancient castles that seemed to remember every footstep that had ever passed through, to experimental libraries where books gleamed with the potential of unwritten stories, the response was quiet but profound.
Eleven individuals, Wanderers in their own right, answered the call. Each one was matched with a site where past and present folded into each other, like the meeting of two rivers. They didn’t come to change the world overnight, but to listen, observe, and find the cracks where new stories might take root. They wondered how storytelling could slowly shift the course of a community, as water wears away stone over time.
Through quiet gatherings and unhurried conversations, the Wanderers created spaces where stories could breathe. Their work wasn’t a grand platform but more like a garden, a place to tend and nurture, planting seeds to see what might grow. The Wanderers’ Circle became the heart of this garden – a place for storytellers to meet and reflect, exchanging fragments of their journeys like windfallen seeds gathered from the earth.

The Waters of Change
At the centre of this gentle movement is the StoryArcs emblem. It is not a crest adorned with symbols, but something far simpler – worn smooth, like a pebble carried in a pocket for years, passed from hand to hand. The emblem speaks of how stories move through people, rivers converging in the ocean – each one adding depth and richness without losing its own course. As more writers, artists, and visionaries joined, StoryArcs grew, not through bold proclamations but through whispered possibilities – an idea shared here, a memory uncovered there. Together, they slowly altered the landscape in ways no one could predict but everyone could feel.

The Journey Evolves
As we move into October 2024, the ripples widen. What began as the quiet work of a few Wanderers now expands into something more – a new phase, not defined by grand announcements but by the quiet persistence of growth. Nine new Narrators join the journey, each one carrying stories of the world as they’ve seen it and as they imagine it could be. Their projects will lead them into communities where health, identity, and creativity flow together, like the tangled roots of a forest.
These Narrators aren’t here to fix anything but to hold space. They will listen, observe, and find the cracks where their stories can enter, opening new pathways of connection. Their work, like the work before them, will be slow, patient, and essential – like water shaping stone, unseen but undeniable. Through mentorship and moments of reflection, they will weave their own strands into the ever-growing tapestry that StoryArcs has become.
And as this journey continues, we invite you to join us in exploring the path ahead. There are no maps for this path – no marked waypoints or final destinations – but the stories we carry will light the way. Together, we will discover new projects, share our own stories, and listen to the ones that emerge from the spaces we’ve yet to explore. In the end, storytelling remains our bridge – a quiet, unassuming one – that leads us toward a future more connected, more compassionate, and more whole.
